Being horses

Horses in Iceland are raised in large herds and and not backed until four or five and are only considered to be fully developed at seven. Each year young horses and mares not being used for riding are turned out in the mountains for the summer. This is where they learn to be just horses. In the autumn, at the Round Up, the horses are brought back from the mountains. This is something of a national festival in Iceland and is not to be missed.
